چکیده
Abstract Aim The utility in obtaining microbiology, culture, and sensitivity (MC&S) specimens during drainage of soft-tissue abscesses is controversial. This study aimed to determine if routine MC&S analysis changed management after non-perianal abscesses. Method A retrospective review was undertaken consecutive patients undergoing for superficial between July November 2021. Data recorded included whether an specimen taken, the result, any antimicrobial treatment clinical outcome. Using Auditing functions inbuilt software, surgical team had subsequently reviewed result also determined. Results 76 underwent abscess drainage, located pilonidal region (32%), axillary (24%), buttock groin (11%), neck (5%) trunk (5%). sent from 52 cases (69%). were by 6 (11%). Samples positive 34 (65%). Mixed organisms most common finding (28 cases) not performed on these samples. Methicillin-sensitive S aureus cultured 4 (8%), Methicillin-resistant 1 case (2%) Staphylococcus lugdenensis (2%). Post-operative antibiotics prescribed 25 patients. required a further course postoperatively all taken but showed no growth. Conclusions Few results did guide case. These support hypothesis that sampling typical low-risk

Universal Grammar and Chaos/Complexity Theory: Where Do They Meet And Where Do They Cross?
Abstract The present study begins by sketching "Chaos/Complexity Theory" (C/CT) and its applica-tion to the nature of language and language acquisition. Then, the theory of "Universal Grammar" (UG) is explicated with an eye to C/CT. Firstly, it is revealed that CCT may or may not be allied with a theory of language acquisition that takes UG as the initial state of language acquisition for ...

15 صفحه اولGlucocorticoids: do we know how they work?
It is not known to what extent glucocorticoid hormones cause their anti-inflammatory actions and their undesirable side effects by the same or different molecular mechanisms. Glucocorticoids combine with a cytoplasmic receptor that alters gene expression in two ways. One way is dependent on the receptor's binding directly to DNA and acting (positively or negatively) as a transcription factor. T...
متن کاملPost–Vision and Change: Do We Know How to Change?
The scale and importance of Vision and Change in Undergraduate Biology Education: A Call to Action challenges us to ask fundamental questions about widespread transformation of college biology instruction. I propose that we have clarified the "vision" but lack research-based models and evidence needed to guide the "change." To support this claim, I focus on several key topics, including evidenc...
